We strongly recommend that you back up your site prior to any upgrade. Upgrading will reset all your settings. All changes made in your previous edition will have to be re-performed.

Upgrading to a newer version (e.g. 2.0.5 to 3.0.1)

CometChat can be upgraded using the following steps.

1. Rename your existing cometchat folder to cometchat_old
2. Upload the new cometchat folder
3. Copy the cometchat_old/integration.php file to your new cometchat folder overwriting the existing file
4. Point your browser to http://www.yoursite.com/cometchat/install.php

Warning: Do not copy config.php from the older installation to your new version. You will have to re-do all the configuration settings from CometChat Administration Panel.

Upgrading to a higher edition but different version

Follow the same instructions as upgrading to a newer version

Upgrading to a higher edition for same version (e.g. Basic to Professional Edition)

1. Update the cometchat/license.php file
2. Upload the new plugins as per your requirements
