Server Requirements

CometChat is a web-based application and as such has a few minimum requirements. To run CometChat, you need a web hosting provider that includes the following things:

1. PHP version 4 or greater
2. MySQL version 4 or MSSQL Server 2005
3. A pre-registered domain name
4. 10 Megabytes of hard drive space
5. PHP extensions: curl (required for some plugins)

Most hosting providers already have these applications on their servers. With the above requirements meant, the CometChat software will run on any operating system using any modern web server software.

Browser Support

We support modern, standards-compliant web browsers, such as Internet Explorer 7+, Firefox 2+, Safari 3+, Chrome and Opera 9.5+

Audio/Video Chat and all other plugins

Same requirements as that of CometChat Core. No special hardware or software required.

Screen Sharing Plugin

If you would like to use the screen sharing, you will need RED5 (open-source). The software can either be hosted on your own server or you can use a third-party host. Contact us for recommendations.

Whiteboard Plugin

If you would like to use whiteboard plugin, you will need either RED5 (open-source) or Adobe FMS server (commercial). Both software can either be hosted on your own server or you can use a third-party host. Contact us for recommendations.

Real-time Translate Module

If you would like to use real-time translation (not to confuse with page translation), you must subscribe to either Microsoft or Google’s translation service. Microsoft provides a free subscription pack which maybe adequate for small/medium sites. Google charges $20 for 1 million characters and is not a monthly subscription. Facebook/Gtalk Chat Extension

As this is a hosted solution, it is a free benefit we provide to all active CometChat license holders. If your license has expired, you can renew it for 50% of the edition price.
