  • I thought CometChat was a one-time cost. Do I need CometService to use CometChat?

    No. CometService is an optional service. You do not need CometService to use CometChat. 99% of our customers do not use CometService. However, you need a CometChat license to use CometService.

  • When would I need CometService?

    CometService can be used in the following two cases:

    • You would like faster delivery of messages
    • Your existing server is unable to handle the load due to CometChat (either due to poorly configured server or increase in number of simultaneous users)

  • When you say X messages, do you mean sent or received messages or both?

    With every plan you get a fixed number of messages per month. Only sent messages are counted. No deduction is made for received messages. So if two users are chatting on your site, and they exchange 40 messages, then 40 messages will be deducted. CometService is only applicable for one-on-one messaging and not for chatrooms.

  • What if I use more messages than allocated by my plan?

    We will send you warnings when your messages are used over the plan limit. In the next month you will be asked to upgrade your plan.

  • How does CometService work?

    Traditionally, CometChat uses smart-polling i.e. it polls between 3-12 seconds depending on user activity. This may add to extra load on your server. When you subscribe to CometService, all this extra load is transferred to our optimized servers and polling on your server is reduced to once every 60 seconds (to synchronize the Who's Online list). CometService, thus, is able to reduce your server load by 95% almost instantly.

  • CometService does not seem right for me. But I still want to offload work. Do you offer any alternatives?
